OFFICIAL NEWS LETTER

June 24th and July 1st , 2005 Edition

DOUBLE HEADER!

Dear MOM’s Racer,

Well, the season started out ok, but the lovely Upstate NY weather finally caught up with us and we had a rainout for the June 17th event. We welcomed 49 vehicles to the June 24th race and 56 to the July 1st race. Since the races were so close together, there was not time to do individual newsletters.

For those that attended on June 24th, you finally got to meet and see ‘Mondo’ Mike Young. Mike brought out his 7-second Saleen and made a number of 7.90 passes. See his ‘Racer Profile’ below.

Racer Profile # 1

We have the pleasure of introducing Mike Young, from Windham, New Hampshire. Mike came down and brought his family, as well as one of his 7 (yes, I said seven) Super Street Outlaw cars, the old Mark Van Meter machine. This beautiful Saleen ran a handful of 7.90’s at NYIRP with an awesome qualifying pass against Imhoff – a 7.98 to Imhoff’s 8.10!
Check out Mike’s major sponsor and supporter – OceanStatePerformance.com.
Mr. Young has ran a best of 7.40 at 188 m.p.h.. Not sure which car it was in, but hell, that’s fast. Future plans include racing as much as possible.

Race #4 is AUGUST 5th !!!!

WEBSITE ** Don’t forget the MOM’S Racing Forum – we now have over 125 + members and counting. Some are even Chevy fans that just can’t get wait until another race and can’t get enough MOM’S info. Check here frequently  to see who’s doing what and who’s selling parts.

Comments   * Congrats to Jason and Tricia Doty on the birth of their baby daughter. * We still have commemorative t-shirts available for a measly $9.00! * Remember – stick around for the awards ceremony follwing eliminations. All MOM’S Racers are eligible for the tool giveaways – you only have to be present. * Don’t forget the annual NYIRP Track Banquet held in January, Batavia, NY. It’s not far off and always makes for a good time. * Please print somewhat legibly on the Tech cards when you get them. Sometimes it is tough to read your information. * Thank you to those participating in the Ads Page. We are up to almost 350 people on our mailing list, so your business will get a lot of exposure. * REMINDER – report to the base of the tower following the 3rd qualifying round to let us know if you will or will not be running in the Elimination round. This is vital. If we don’t hear from you, you are considered broken and will not complete.

 Racer Profile # 2
Next on our list is Bill Drake, of  Rochester, NY.  He showed up on June 24th without the kids in tow, so out came the rare ’93 Saleen. Bill upgraded the original A-trim Vortech to an S-Trim, threw on some hot Weld Magnum skinnies and ET Streets. He was hoping for some low 12 second times, but tuning issues are still being worked out. He doesn’t have much of anything else planned for the ’93, performance wise, other than that aforementioned tuning. Apparently he is building a ‘95 that will most likely be a carbed 351 stroker with a big shot or fogger setup. Since selling his beautiful ’92 GT, he’s starting to miss those fast times, so he’s shooting for another streetable 9 second beast. No time is set yet, but based on his previous Mustangs, I’m sure it will be wild.

 Racer Profile # 3

The following racer is John Cavallaro, from Rochester, NY. John, someone thought to be a diehard Chevy fan, has built this beautiful, slammed coupe. For those not from the Rochester area, John made his mark back in the mid ‘90’s with a sick ’67 Nova. A real bad ass 10.5” tire car. He dominated the street scene with it. That car has been retired in place of the Notch pictured below. It sports a 347 with a Turbo 350 trans. He’s run a best of 10.04 @ 136 m.p.h., but don’t expect much more. As any racer knows, it takes money and he’s tired of spending it. Look for some tweaking to get consistent 9.90’s. That’s good enough for me, still a pretty sick street car, maybe not as fast as that old Nova, but still dominant.

Racer Profile #4
Ken Verkey of Newark, NY has this ’96 Gt. Currently it has run a best of 13.15 at 107m.p.h. with the current 10 lb. Procharger setup, but look for more. He’s going to be having Kennedy’s Dynotune install and setup a twin turbo 347, to help ‘boost’ the numbers into the 9’s. He’s looking to crush Turazzo. He’ll also need a good rear end. as witnessed Friday when he took out his THIRD one! Yikes, talk about torque.

Since this is a double issue – you get double the profiles.

Racer Profile #5
Welcome Ian Muller, form Little Falls, NY.  His beautiful ’95 GT has run a best of 12.44 at 114 m.p.h. with only some minor bolt ons and 9 lbs’ of boost. Some of you may remember his red and white ’87 GT which was a mid 10-second beast.
Future plans for the ’95 include Rousch heads, a DSS 331, and an HP Turbo. I can’t wait to see this setup.

Racer Profile #6
Next on our list is Raymond Maple, one of our Buffalo area racers. He’s pretty quiet about future plans for the ’89 GT convertible, but lots of boost in the form of twins are planned (if you know what I mean).

Racer Profile #7
Below is a first timer to MOM’S Racing, Paul Clark from West Seneca, NY and his beautiful daily driven Paxton Novi blown ’99 Cobra. Paul typically runs 1/8 mile tracks, so our ¼ mile deal was a treat. His best 1/8 mile pass is a 8.6 at 81 m.p.h. Future plans include autocrossing (SCCA) and more drag racing – hopefully MOM’S is on top of his list. Welcome Paul, hope you had a good time.

Racer Profile #8
Finally, we meet Jason Lockman, from Gates, NY. Jason brought out his new ’04 GT, doused in a fairly rare tangerine orange color. The car is bone stock and has run a best of 14.6 at 96 m.p.h. He plans on adding some gears and exhaust – first bolt-ons to any Mustang.

CONGRATS to Joe Turazzo for nabbing his first 11-second pass. It only took 4 years, but he did it!

Safety  If you have ANY questions regarding safety, contact anyone on the MOM’s Racing Team or even call Bob Metcalfe, N.Y.I.R.P.  owner at 585-382-3030.
Since we’re talking about this, both ‘Mom’ and Bob wanted me to mention how poorly eliminations went on June 24th. A number of people had to be repeatedly called to come to the staging lanes, making the whole process take waaaaaay longer than needed. Please, as was announced a bunch of times, either stand next to your car to listen for your car number to be called, or sit in it with the designated track radio station on to hear your calling.

Advertising We’ve started our advertising sheet. This is great for those that don’t want to spend the big bucks to sponsor an entire event. You still get your name out there, only for a smaller fee. To get involved, contact anyone on the MOM’S Racing Team. Please help  promote these places, as they help promote MOM’S Racing.

The 50/50 winner was KEN VERKEY who won $92! The 50/50 raffle personnel have told us participation has gone down over the last year or so. Please help support MOM’S Racing and grab some 50/50 tickets when the girls are walking around. Not only do you help MOM’S Racing, but you get the chance to make some money. Hell, Ken made enough money to pay for the night and gas. No one profits from this, the money goes to help get the trophies, magnets, pens, all the little things you don’t realize.

Now that is a tow vehicle. Mike’s awesome Renegade rig.

What a sinister looking Stang. The windshield banner fits. PREDATOR.

A few pics to help you follow among with Dave Laurer’s SSO build. The car is expected to be out by March and should be a mid to low 7 second contender!
