HEADS-UP & PRO-TREE since 1994!
Dear MOMS Racer,
You could not have asked for a better day of racing. We took over the track and forced Bob to give the track the ‘NOPI’ treatment (VHT & Gold Dust). The starting line traction was near perfect – evident by some broken rear ends.
The weather was virtually perfect as well and a number of our racers broke their personal best; Ed Imhoff reset the MOMS Racing Record with a blistering 7.77 at 182 mph, Dave Stulpin crushed the Lightning Record with an 11.85.
It’s time for a huge congratulation to our 2006 Champions!
Jim Matusek – Grand Champion
Cheryl Malczewski - PRO CAR Power Adder Champion
Randy Dombrowski - Performance Automatic N/A Champion
Mike Eames - Vortech Superchargers Drag Radial Champion
Scott Wawryznek - Johnny Lightning Products Lightning Champion
Tom Lapp- Nitto Tires Drag Radial Limited Champion
Joe Pawlak - UPR Products Street Champion
Racer Profile #1
Well he finally made it out – it was the last race, but Kevin Comstra of Ontario, NY finally got to run the 1320 with his 1981 Mustang. The name may sound familiar to some, because his brother is the famous Neil Comstra (another story in itself). Kevin’s car features a stroked and bored 302 (347 baby) and he currently runs it naturally aspirated. He runs in the Vortech Superchargers Drag Radial class and has run a best of 11.52 at 118. Damn.
Big thanks goes out to Mr. Jim Noto. Kevin has mild plans for the car that include nitrous, paint, brake upgrade and a cage. Not much, only the necessary items to run in the 9’s.

Racer Profile #2
Next on our list is Don Davis of Lockport, NY. For those on the MOMS Racing Forum this past winter you witnessed the build-up of Don’s car – titled 1UGLYFOX. He has done a tremendous job on the t-topped 4-eye ‘Stang. Specifications include a 347 Stroker and a Performance Automatic Supercomp C4. He runs on the Drag Radial Class with a best of 11.71 at 117 mph. Future plans may include some spray, an anti-roll bar and a cowl induction hood.

Racer Profile #3
Here we have Adam Carmody from Youngstown, NY. Adam’s car is another beautiful specimen of some well thought out pieces. His Drag Radial based LX has a Kennedy’s tuned 302 that has Edelbrock heads, cam, and intake as well as an 8 lb. Novi 2000 supercharger. To help control some of the power, Adam put a bunch of UPR suspension pieces under the car. The LX has run a best of 12.06 at 120 mph. That mph tells you it’s a solid 11-second car once he gets the suspension working for the first 60 feet. This winter should see a new R302 block in the car as well as a complete drag oriented suspension to go with the sick Bogart Racing wheels the car currently runs on. The only problem he foresees is trying to decide which transmission to go with a C4 or a TKO500? Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Racer Profile #4
Up next is Nasty Nate Ingerson of Webster, NY. Nate’s slick black LX features a GT-40 intake, Dart heads, and an E303 cam. Simple bolt-ons that have netted him a 12.76 at 107. A beefed up rear-end is planned for the winter – other than that, you’ll continue to see this super clean Mustang in the Street class, come 2007.

Racer Profile #5
Finally you get to meet Mr. Phil DiPiazza of Fairport, NY. Phil races one of the only Capri’s that runs with us. His absolutely stunning ’85 Mercury Capri runs in the Street class and goes well into the 12’s with simple bolt-on’s and some tuning. A 331 Stroker, heads, and a cam will be between the strut towers come spring time – so look for the Capri to be in the 11-second zone. When not working, Phil buys/sells/parts out Mustangs and plays in a number of bands when time permits.

Comments/Rumors. Where do I begin? The date is currently 9-29 and I just got a phone call from Dave Laurer, on his way to the NSCA Finals in Columbus, Ohio. The Super Street Mustang lives! Finally! You saw the pictures of the build throughout newsletters as well as on the MOMS Racing Forum. He’s done some 60 foot and 330 foot testing with unexpected success. A number of 1/8th mile passes have occurred. The car is stupid powerful – just sick. You will be in for a fantastic treat come 2007 when Dave starts running with MOMS Racing. Word has come in from our Power Adder class sponsor – Pro Car has sold their multi-championship Corvette and will be building a big block twin turbo carbon-fibered body 2006 Mustang!!!!!!! If they aren’t running mid-6’s at 220 +, they won’t be happy. How about some of our Syracuse/Utica guys? Jeff Lee has a Fox GT that is dying to be built – come on and break into it. Ian Muller brought out his wild SN-95 turbo project a few times this summer. I’m sure with a little more tuning, the world will rotate a little faster when Ian makes it out for next season. Andy Gallo is planning on some boost finally. The car has had the same configuration far too long – look for a home-made twin turbo set-up off a couple of Turbo Coupes come spring time, plus a ton of UPR suspension pieces. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Joe Musso/Dan Bush garage. The old 1992 Drake GT should be out come spring 2007. The car is almost out of paint and only a matter of time before it is reassembled. I overheard them saying, ‘if it don’t run 8’s, it’s going in the lake’. Hmmm. Vinnie DiFlorio – where are you man? What about Bob Restani? A lot of you guys that have not been out to a MOMS race in a year or so will be floored by the level of competition we are seeing. Ron Funk has some MAJOR plans for next season (so a little birdie tells me). Spending a weekend in the VIP suite at the NMRA Columbus race with John Urist will do that to you I guess. Anyone that knows of or has heard of Urist, knows that the name Urist goes hand in hand with Turbo. How about Mr. Noto? A full funny car roll cage plus more boost will definitely be the answer to 9-second time slips. Last year’s Street Champ Chris Durbin has some plans as well. I promised to keep this quiet, but expect to hear from him come 2007. How about Bill Bianchi? He’s side-lined that sissy little 2001 Saleen convertible he has to build a sick little coupe with the 408 Frankie DiGiorgio built this past summer. A Big Shot PLUS a fogger system will have whoever drives it looking for some Depends. Joe Zito was still working out some bugs, but extensive dyno-tuning (plus a whole lot more) will be done this winter. Same goes for ‘Hot Pants’ Malczewski. She’s not content with just making brownies for a select few – she’s shooting for another repeat P/A championship.
A few action shots – enjoy.

News just in – we’re having a final non-points race on October 22 – you got all winter to fix it, so run it out the back door!
All these damn black and grey cars.

Yes, the car does actually exist. See. Our 2006 Champ – Mr. Matusek.

(No Jacks – no air – put the big jets in for that). Cheryl, getting ready for another 9-second pass.
